WTI 2010 is just a few short days away! The planning committee and resident scholars are all looking forward to a fantastic adventure where we will maximize our potential, our resources and our impact. We have a few important pieces of information for you as you prepare to retreat to Pacific Palisades, so please take a moment to look it over!
Schedule & Location
Please find a schedule of the institute below. All institute activities will take place at the Aldersgate Retreat House in Pacific Palisades. The address is 925 Haverford Ave., Pacific Palisades, CA 90272. There are pictures of the retreat house on the WTI website at http://wti2010.wordpress.com! This will be a very secluded, retreat-like experience, but don’t expect all the comforts of a hotel. We’ll provide linens for the beds, but please bring your own toiletries and personal items.
Payment
If you requested a receipt and have not yet received one, you will receive it at the institute. If your payment has not yet been received, you will receive an invoice at registration. If you have any questions regarding payment prior to the institute, please email Kenrick Ali at kali@housing.sjsu.edu.
Transportation
Transportation to and from LAX (or any other area airport) is not provided. For more information on best ways to travel to Aldersgate, please see the transportation information on the Institute website (http://wti2010.wordpress.com/transportation/).
Parking
There are a limited number of parking spots available at the Retreat House. If you are planning to drive, please consider carpooling with others from your institution or area to save space. In order to accommodate all cars at no cost to the participant, parking will be “stacked,” meaning that once you park, you will not have easy access to your car until the end of the retreat. However, the downtown area of Pacific Palisades is literally around the corner from the retreat house, so you shouldn’t have a need for a vehicle during the Institute.
Memorabilia Exchange
The memorabilia is becoming a long-standing WTI tradition. We ask you to bring items from your school to share with your fellow institute participants. Items can be big or small – past contributions have ranged from pens, notepads and plastic cups to sweatshirts, coffee mugs and flash drives. Share your institutional pride across the region! We ask everyone to bring at least one item, but multiple items are welcome if you have them to share.
Institute Attire
WTI is a casual affair, so please leave your suits at home! Jeans and school attire are a popular choice amongst participants. Winter in LA can be a little unpredictable- ranging anywhere from the upper 50′s to the mid-80′s. Rain is not common, but not completely out of the picture. We suggest bringing layers and adjusting to the room temps according to your comfort level.
Optional Activities
A number of evening activities will be offered by our Hospitality Committee members, including possible trips into Santa Monica for some karaoke fun!
Don’t Forget:
- Toiletries and personal effects for communal living (things to consider include an alarm clock, ear plugs, shower caddy, shower shoes, towels and wash cloths, etc.)
- Business cards for networking with your new friends.
- One or more memorabilia items from your school for institution giveaways.
- Money for optional activities.
- That Aldersgate Retreat House is a dry facility, meaning no alcohol on the premises. But for anyone who wants to indulge a bit, Pacific Palisades has a number of options for responsible consumption within walking distance!
